The latest National Intelligence Estimate concluding that Iran discontinued its nuclear weapons program four years ago has claimed one casualty: CNN has postponed speculative documentary “We Were Warned — Iran Goes Nuclear.”

The two-hour spec, which was slated for Dec. 12 under the “CNN Presents” banner, was “set partially in the future,” featuring a what-if scenario as former government officials — playing fictional cabinet members — debate how to deal with the Iranian threat.

That special was “based on a different set of rules and a different set of conditions,” said CNN veep-senior exec producer Mark Nelson, noting that the surprising NIE report “changed everything.”

old man stevens throws a nutty at cnn's dana bash

first off, something of substance actually happened in the situation room.  now, if that wasn't news enough, what happened was sen. ted "bridge-to-nowhere, the internet is a series of tubes" stevens got a little, um, crazy with reporter dana bash.  stevens, the far-too-long-time alaska republican, had his house raided recently over suspected shady dealing he had with an alaskan oil company.  he had been avoiding reporters all day, but ms. bash caught him in a stairwell...and this followed:

SEN. TED STEVENS ®, ALASKA: I put out a statement and I’m not saying anything to anybody beyond that statement.

BASH: Can you say, sir, why the federal agents went to your House or what they took?

STEVENS: Can you understand English? That’s the only statement I’m going to make.

BASH: I do understand that sir, but obviously this is a very important issue, when federal agents and IRS agents come to the home of a U.S. senator.

STEVENS: I understand you’re recording this, but I told you again I made the statement. It’s issued, that’s what my lawyers told me to say, and that’s all I’m going to say.

dana bash can understand english just fine, senator, but i think she's having a harder time understanding how you are still in office.

another guy at the justice department (who isn't alberto gonzalez) quit yesterday...paul mcnulty, deputy attorney general, "announced his plans to leave in a letter to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, citing the financial pressures of having children entering their college years, one official said." riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. and you probably want to spend more time with your family.

and could cnn please get wolf blitzer some ex-lax. no man deserves to be (and sound) that constipated for that long...even if you have your own special situation room.
