it has finally happened, turd blossom himself is set to be forced to testify, in public, under oath, before congress on his role in the firings of gonzo's us attorneys. so kudos to congress for, ya know, actually doing something, especailly after the crappy deal that fred fielding (the president's white house counsel) offered them. moreover, you know you're in trouble mr. president when you've called fred fielding in for help. (note: mr. fielding was a deputy white counsel under another president during a scandal. yep, you guessed it, nixon and watergate).
not like rove testifying will actually happen, but the idea of rove and miers before a limelight-hogging committee is kinda nice. anywho, the president will surely cite executive privilege (cause they were private conversations) as a way out of this one, and it will all get thrown into the dc circuit court where another recently installed us attorney will have to decide to convene a grand jury on contempt of congress charges for rove and company.
ya know, funny story: another president did this same thing to prevent his aides from testifying, and he used the same reason. maybe the president should ask mr. nixon how that one turned out before going down that particular calle de watergate.
anyway, you can read more about it in this wonderfully titled british piece on the approved subpoenas: Bush aides called to testify over prosecutor sackings.
any bets on how long 'til the brits are writing about gonzo getting sacked? i've got friday the 30th of this month in the sacking pool...this is the real march madness, baby.
